Midwives (CNM)

Our future team will include 2-3 CNMs as well as nurses (RN, LPN or EMT) serving as birth assistants.  Clinic visits will be one hour in length, and we plan to average 4-7 births per month total. Midwives will also travel to patient homes for postpartum visits at 24-48 hours and 3 days.

Births requiring a higher level of care will be transferred to our local hospital which is just a few minutes away from Tandem.

This position will start with 20 hrs/week of clinic hours and expand to include 4-7 births/month shared across the midwives. We currently have one CNM on staff.

Requirements:

  • Eligible to practice as a Midwife in a birth center per current Indiana Birthing Center Licensure Rules

  • 3+ years experience as a midwife or in community birth

  • Current CPR and NRP certifications

  • Skilled in phlebotomy, trauma-informed pelvic care, patient-centered midwifery model of care

  • Eligible to be an Indiana Medicaid provider

Expectations:

  • Communicate orally and in writing to a wide range of families and staff; assess the learning needs of a particular group or person

  • Meet the client where they are; adapt the learning experience to the age and ability of the group or person

  • Possess a broad knowledge base of the emotional, social, physical, and spiritual aspects of the childbearing family from early pregnancy through early parenting.

  • Possess previous experiences requiring the use of teamwork, project management, research and problem-solving.

Tandem currently offers limited home birth options while working towards licensure of our birth center.  When the birth center opens, salary and terms will be re-negotiated.  Until that point, this position will be hourly and part-time, focused on routine well-person health care. 

  1. Provide routine well-person health care.

  2. Evaluate and treat gynecological problems according to clinical practice guidelines. Consult or refer to a physician as indicated.

  3. Orders lab tests as indicated, according to protocols.

  4. Counsel client regarding health issues, such as: breast/chest self-exam, contraception, cardiovascular risk, health maintenance, and care for specific problems.

  5. Write prescriptions according prescriptive authority agreement with our Medical Director
